UPDATED ON: April, 22 2024
Happy Saturday and weekend, I’m Elena from Italy and thanks to be here on Alessandro III di Macedonia: your source about Alexander the Great and Hellenism! Today I’m happy to announce the release of a very particular book that will only be of interest to a niche of people.
“Chaeronea, 2 August 338 BC: A day that changed the world” Volume II: The Essays – Bilingual Edition
by Panagiotis P. Iossif and Ioannis D. Fappas (Editors)
Museum of Cycladic Art

The printed version counting approximately 400 pages includes 19 original essays written by leading experts on the region, the battle and the periods covered by the Exhibition, accompanied by rich and often unpublished photographic material. The essays are written in Greek and English.
In addition to the 19 essays, two Appendices are included: one with the English translation of the excavation diaries of Panagiotis Stamatakis and a second with the transcription of letters and reports by Georgios Sotiriadis.
The catalogue is not only addressed to the academic community, since it analyses in an accessible way the circumstances of the battle, the monuments that accompany it, but also the perspectives that it opens in the extended Hellenistic world. Finally, the reception of the battle by the modern Greek state is examined in detail, as is the role of archaeologists in the reception and perception of the battle.
The TWO APPENDICES are only in the e-Book version.

The second volume of the catalogue of the Exhibition on Chaeronea comes as a complement of the first volume. The book’s description states that is made up of 400 pages but from the Table of Contents we see that there are more than 500 pages, which would justify the price increase compared to the first volume, however it is my assumption which I will verify and update you when I have received the book. I received the book and it’s 400 pages long. The TWO APPENDICES are only in the e-book version and I’m sorry because I was really hoping to be able to read them.
I’m very happy that it was also released in paper version because about a month ago, if I remember correctly, I saw that the eBook version was available at the price of 17 €. From the available preview you can see that this book is structured like the first volume and it’s therefore a very thick book that would have been a shame to have only in digital version at least from my point of view. A couple of days ago I was about to buy the digital version and while browsing the Cycladic Shop I saw that just a couple of days before the paper version had also been released. Although there is an obvious price difference I couldn’t miss it because it’s a complementary volume that completes the first. The first volume is the catalog of the exhibition, this is for a more specialist audience of academics and those who want to delve deeper into what happened on that day of 2 August 334 BC with the help of scholars’ essays.
I very much wanted to be able to see this exhibition but unfortunately, due to a series of important expenses that I find myself in this period, I was unable to afford the trip to Greece for the exhibition but I console myself, although it’s not the same thing, with these two volumes which albeit they cost a important sum put together I couldn’t miss it and for the same thought I didn’t hesitate for a moment to also purchase the printed version of the second volume.
Here’s the links to find the digital and printed versions of the second volume because they can be purchased directly on the Cycladic Shop website and as soon as I’ll receive this new release I’ll publish an article to present them to you, hoping to help you in the decision to purchase one or both of these volumes. Below I’ll publish the review of both as usual even if I can’t give you a precise date for this one, however from the photos I’ll post later I can assure you that they are valuable curated volumes and will certainly be a beautiful addition to your Alexandergraphy collection.
Thank you and have a good weekend,
