Bilingual scientific catalogue published in the context of the new series of archaeological exhibitions “Human Histories” for the exhibition “Chaeronea, 2 August 338 BC: A day that changed the world”. The catalogue presents the battle of Chaeronea, the one that pitted the Macedonians against the allied Hellenic cities and emphasizes its importance in shaping the new Hellenistic world. It consists of 453 pages and includes all the objects of the exhibition per section, with detailed explanatory texts in Greek and English and rich photographic material. Through the texts of the curators, as well as some of the leading scholars in the field, an attempt is made to highlight the specific battle as the event that finally brought the Macedonians to the position of the dominant power, decisively influencing the entire ancient world. More than 240 objects from numerous museums and collections in Greece and abroad are presented, some of which are published for the first time, highlighting a historical event that was destined to change the world.

I think the book it’s something well done because it has a bunch of pages. At the moment the catalog is only present on the museum website’s shop and with the shipping costs its price becomes a little high. I hope it will also become available in the major online stores because the catalog must definitely be mine. I don’t know if I will be able to go to the exhibition, and I doubt it even if I hope so with all my heart, but the catalog will certainly be mine!

Grazie mille per aver condiviso la tua esperienza che solo ora sono riuscita a recuperare. Purtroppo il periodo in cui la mostra è stata allestita è stato problematico per me sia dal punto di vista lavorativo che economico (i costi dei treni erano veramente spropositati) quindi ho dovuto rinunciare e me ne rammarico ogni volta che ci penso. Sicuramente comprerò il prima possibile il catalogo della mostra in modo da compensare un po’ questa amarezza. In merito all’allestimento, per come me lo hai descritto, ti dirò le mie due considerazioni dal punto di vista di studentessa di Beni Culturali. I Musei statali hanno un grosso problema con la pubblicizzazione degli eventi e con tutto il materiale informativo, si pensa sempre che la gente che va sappia tutto o che vada solo per ammirare e non apprendere. Quindi non mi stupisco del fatto che ci siano state carenze da questo punto di vista, mi stupisce però il fatto che non ci sia stata una manovra di marketing intelligente per quanto riguarda del materiale inerente alla mostra da vendere all’interno del bookshop. Il bookshop del Mann lo avevo trovato molto bello e stimolante quando ci sono stata una paio di anni fa. Per quanto riguarda il mosaico io sapevo che avevano allestito una sala con la possibilità di mostrare ai visitatori il restauro in corso, ma evidentemente non è stato così in base a quello che mi dici, peccato.

Sì il restauro era in corso ma era tutto coperto da un telone come ho mostrato dalle foto. C’erano anche dei pannelli informativi ma nulla di più da quanto ho visto io.
Per il bookshop del Mann: di libri su Alessandro ce n’erano, di diversi e svariati, però ho trovato brutta la mancanza di merchandising inerente alla mostra a parte i due cataloghi pubblicati. Nessun gadget particolare o altro…
