Happy week-end, I’m Elena and thanks to be here on Alessandro III di Macedonia- Alexander the Great and Hellenism! A few days ago was published a very interesting book but although I already knew about this release for a few days, I waited to talk to you about it for a very specific reason. Today I’m talking to you about the book:
The Legacy of Alexander the Great. Volume I: From the Ancient World to the Renaissance
by Joaquín Montero
The University Press of the South, Bookmundo

This work is the result of years of research and compilation of images related to the iconography of Alexander the Great. The image and influence of Alexander is so deep and extensive that the materials compiled have been divided in two parts: volume 1 covers the period from the Ancient World to the Renaissance and the beginning of the modern era; and volume 2 starts with the modern times into the contemporary world, all the way to the present day.
Joaquin Montero, Ph.D., is a university professor in the Chicago area (United States), where he teaches History and Humanities besides Spanish, and Spanish Literature, Culture and Civilization. He is also a published poet, writer, illustrator, and an artist. He has published research articles in different disciplines, mainly in the fields of History and the Humanities, and a historical novel on Alexander the Great. His main fields of research are history in general with focus on ancient times, art, and numismatics related to political propaganda.
This visual journey shows the extraordinary relevance of Alexander’s legacy since his iconographic model accompanies us throughout the ages and reaches our contemporary times. A study or compilation of these characteristics has never been done before; therefore, it is new and different from what already exists. It covers about twenty-four centuries of art and history, from the life of Alexander to the present. This global approach and complete vision of his historical figure provides and contributes something new in the history of Alexander’s image.

I wanted to announce this book to you for a few days but I preferred to wait because there wasn’t much information online, so I waited until I received the copy and I hope to be helpful in deciding whether to buy it.
This book is an immense collection of works on Alexander the Great and the author’s research work is incredible and from the table of contents one cannot understand its vastness. On every second page, if not on every page, there is an image with a relative description. The volume consists of 375 large-format pages and the cost is excellent bearing in mind that it is an essay by a researcher. This book is printed in the States by The University Press of the South and in France (and I believe also for the rest of the world) by Bookmundo. From Amazon’s simple description I didn’t understand the real scope of this work, also because the online preview is not available but the author will also publish a second volume which will cover from the modern times to the contemporary world. I will definitely read this volume and the second will be a must read too!
The paperback version can be purchased on your favorite Amazon. I hope I have announced a book you didn’t know about and given you useful information about it.
Thanks and have a great day,
