Good day I’m Elena and thanks for reading Alessandro III di Macedonia- your source about Alexander the Great and Hellenism! Today I’d like to share with you two interesting new publications worth keeping an eye on, as they’re novels but also promise to be well-researched, and I definitely think they’re worth reading. The second saga I’d like to tell you about is something from a different, non-Western point of view:
Porus: In the Shadow of Betrayals | Part – 1
Porus Saga #1
by Roopesh Tiwari
Garuda Prakashan, 2022

4 TH Century BCE. India is a volatile place. Macedon king Alexander has arrived, and his thirst for glory is unquenchable. A certain Chandragupta Maurya has decided to overthrow the kingdom of debauched Nanda and is now a force to be reckoned with. Amidst all this commotion, there exists the warrior King Porus, who has taken up the daunting task of measuring swords with the overlord of more than half the world, Alexander. These sequences of events lead to a mouthwatering saga, full of unimaginable twists and turns.
This book is an attempt to highlight that era of ancient India, focusing on Porus, his power struggle, and his role in Indian history. This book also presents Alexander in a new light, which should interest the readers.
Porus: In the Shadow of Betrayals is the first of a three-part series, covering the early phases in the lives of Porus, Alexander and Chandragupta. Read through to know the twists, turns and the intrigue that will prepare the reader for the second part.

Porus: The Invincible Warrior | Part – 2
Porus Saga #2
by Roopesh Tiwari
Garuda Prakashan, 2025

In 326 BC, on the banks of the Hydaspes River, two kings are to meet in a clash that will echo through the ages.
Alexander of Macedon, the conqueror who once seemed invincible, now stands aimless and adrift. Having turned his back on his roots and driven by a reckless thirst for glory, he marches not for empire but for an end-a death that might finally silence the restlessness within him. His battle against Darius of Parsia is behind him, but the war within rages on.
Across the battlefield stands Purushottam, known to history as Porus, a king who rose from the ashes of loss to build an empire with raw courage and unyielding resolve. Beneath his fierce exterior lies a heart ruled by emotion-a strength that fuels his fight for honor and freedom, but also a vulnerability that could lead to his undoing. His war against the Nanda Maharaja of Magadha has forged him into a legend, but his greatest test awaits him. Alexander, the aimless conqueror, seeks a final, fatal victory.
Purushottam, the emotional warrior, fights not just for his land but for the memory of those he lost. The outcome is uncertain, the stakes unimaginable. Will Alexander find the death he secretly craves, or will Purushottam’s fiery passion turn the tide? And when the dust settles, how will history record their deeds-as acts of heroism or tales of betrayal? A gripping tale of ambition, loss, and destiny… where honor and greed, and love and betrayal, intertwine in a story as timeless as the rivers that witnessed it.

THE AUTHOR: Roopesh Tiwari
Roopesh Tiwari is a thorough HR practitioner and an accomplished leader with over two decades of experience in various industries. Currently, he is working as Chief Human Resource Officer in a manufacturing company. A history enthusiast, Roopesh has read many books and research papers on the subject with a particular interest in Ancient Indian History.
Possessed by a creative mind, he picked up writing as a hobby after noticing many gaps in describing the glorious Indian past. The life of the great King Porus piqued his interest in particular, as even after contributing immensely to early Indian society, it failed to find a way into history books. He considers the project on Porus or Purushottam an emotional journey full of learning and discoveries. His other interests are cricket and music. Roopesh is an MBA from Lucknow University and currently settled in Hyderabad along with his wife and two kids.

The third book of the Porus Saga will be The Last Betrayal!
I don’t remember how I discovered this series — it was on Instagram, if I remember correctly — but it immediately piqued my curiosity because it allows us to see Alexander the Great from the Indian perspective, a very different perspective from how we know him. What we know as a leader who wanted to unite people might not be seen the same way in other places, but rather as a ruthless invader. I found many positive reviews searching online, not just from Indian readers, so with such a premise, I couldn’t miss it! I contacted the author and found a very kind person, whom I thank very much.
I’m eager to read this series! If you want to read the story of a perfect, always right Alexander, these books probably aren’t for you, but if you want to read a fictionalized version that explores a little-known but no less true side of him, you have to read it! As you know by now, this is not an easy time for me and I hope to be able to talk to you about this saga soon!
Thank you so much, have a great weekend!
